What is Happening:

Renewable Energy Day aims to promote and showcase the benefits, opportunities and challenges presented by the growth of the renewable energy industry in the NSW-ACT cross border region.

Renewable Energy Day will feature three renewable Energy Hubs in Canberra, Bungendore and Gunning.

1. Canberra – at the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) campus, in Bruce.

Draft program of activities for the day:

9.00 am: Renewable Energy Display Hub opens to the public (including an opportunity for media to interview participants/speakers)

9.30 am: Official Opening

After the official opening, view the University of NSW’s solar car Sunswift and visit displays and information booths at the Hub set up by:

  • NSW Government Renewable Energy Precincts Program
  • Canberra Institute of Technology – Renewable Energy Trailer
  • ANU Energy Change Institute
  • National Information Communication Technology Australia – NICTA
  • Australian Solar Council
  • Office of the Commissioner for Sustainability and Environment
  • Clean Energy Council
  • Geoscience Australia
  • Business and Industry, including: ActewAGL, Wizard Power, Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV), Wollemi Systems, Ecofootprints Solutions, Efficient Electrical Services, Ventis
  • Community organisations, including: ClimateXchange, See-Change and Canberra Clean Energy Connection
  • ACT Government – Economic Development, Education and Training, Environment and Sustainable Development, Chief Minister and Cabinet Directorates

10:00 – 11:00 am: Morning Tea – served by CIT, hosted by Regional Development Australia ACT and concurrently, guided Walking Tours of CIT renewable energy infrastructure/teaching facilities/ Sustainability House – including solar PV cells, geothermal loop, bio-fuel boiler, fuel cell generator.

11:00 am: Bus Tour of ACT Renewable Energy Infrastructure

Loop includes ANU – Big Dish and Micro Concentrator and NICTA’s (new) Demonstration Laboratory (Bookings essential – BOOK HERE).

12:00 – 1.00 pm: Lunch – Sponsored by the Australian Solar Council and featuring a solar BBQ

1:00 pm: Afternoon Bus Tour to NSW Renewable Energy production sites

Bus tour to NSW renewable energy sites including to the Veolia Bioreactor and Infigen Wind Farm at Woodlawn – (Bookings essentialBOOK HERE). Bus returns to the CIT and Renewable Energy Day concludes about 4.30 pm.

2. Bungendore – outside the Palerang Shire Council Building, Majara Street, Bungendore (inside if raining)

There will be a range of information stalls and displays on renewable energy and energy efficiency including:

  • NSW Government stall with information on energy efficiency and renewable energy.
  • Sunswift –the world’s fastest solar car will be there 12-1.30pm.
  • Demonstration of Real Power Systems down draft gasifier, clean burns biomass at high temperatures producing heat, electricity or hot water.
  • Solar Energy Displays
  • Demonstration of Geothermal Dynamics ground source heat pump, collecting energy from the earth and sun to provide environmentally friendly heating and cooling.
  • Bus Tours to Infigen WoodlawnWind Farm at 9am, 11am, 1 pm and 3:15pm (you need to book ahead here).

3. Gunning – Gunning Shire Hall and Park, Junction of Nelanglo and Copeland Streets.

There will be a range of information stalls and displays on renewable energy and energy efficiency including:

  • Canberra Institute of Technologies (CIT) Energy Trailer
  • NSW Government stall with information on energy efficiency and renewable energy
  • Origin Energy’s “Energy Bob”
  • Sunswift –the world’s fastest solar car from 2:15 – 3:15
  • Demonstration of Real Power Systems down draft gasifier, clean burns biomass at high temperatures producing heat, electricity or hot water.
