Canberra's Electric Vehicle Festival is on again!  Sunday 25 Sept. 2011 – same place as last year – West lawns Old Parliament House. 9 am to 4 pm and, like usual, free. More electric cars, bikes, boats, go carts etc. Lots of fun. Coffee and eats. I would have posted this on the events calendar but can't get it to work for me.

Hi Bill, sorry you had problems posting the festival on the climateXchange calendar. It is on there now.

Hi Bill and Peter, can you answer the questions that Quetzal asked in a separate thread?

"Personally, I don't think I'll be buying an electric car until I feel my
current fuel efficient conventional car reaches its end of life. I've
not seen the Blade Electron, but must say the photos of the Leaf make it
look like an attractive innovation. I have two practical questions
though. First, as a cyclist, I find it hard enough noting where cars are
behind me, although I've got a good sense of hearing so rely on the
noise before I turn my head to check (otherwise the bike goes in the
direction I'm looking). Plus, I notice people are pretty stupid about
not looking before they cross the road these days, they just simply
launch themselves onto the cross walks in some stupid, blind faith
everyone will stop. The silence of the electric car is a little
concerning from this perspective, do you find yourself having to be
extra careful to 'be noticed'? Second, I find myself feeling stressed
enough with tailgating/aggressive driving in Canberra with my normal,
fuel efficient car. How does it do for quick speeding up to avoid overly
frustrating the hazards of other drivers??

I have just read a report that Rolls Royce intends to develop an all electric 'Phantom'.

At present the

"Rolls-Royce's flagship model, the Phantom, is powered by a 6.75-liter V12 engine" [...]

"The all-electric Phantom will boast a “wireless induction charging pad,” which will allow users to simply park it on a special mat to charge — no wires or plug required. That and other battery advances are going to be the crux of a new energy future."

Check out journalist Judith Ireland's article about her experience of driving a Mitsubishi i-MiEV for a week in Canberra.
