I have recently begun a book buying project I have named JOAD

This acronym stands for “Joint Ownership And Donation”. Until now I have only made this known to some of my friends.

It works like this:

  1. A small number of people, usually three so far, agree to buy a specific book that interests them
  2. They each read it in turn, hopefully in a short time frame
  3. They agree who they would like to give the book to, and give it

I expect we may give the books to any of the following

  • An activist group library
  • An individual we know of, who could be expected to make good use of it to benefit the community
  • A public library
  • A recognised charity

So far we have four “buying partners” and we have bought three books. We are in the process of reading them.
