The Canberra Environment and Sustainability Resource Centre is organising a 30 day Sustainability Challenge in October.

Get a team together and join the challenge! You can do it with your housemates, your gym buddies, your classroom or your self.

The Sustainability Challenge helps you to choose 5 things you can do for 30 days.
Put the poster up on your fridge, write in the 5 things you've chosen for a more sustainable life,  and track how you're going over the 30 days of the Challenge.

There's a spot for you to write in how you're going, what's worked really well, and what hasn't worked at all. At the end of the 30 days, send it back to the Environment Centre and they can find out the best ways to reduce your impact on the environment and help more people do the same!

Sign up at ecsustainabilitychallenge(@)gmail.com

See more details about the challenge and a whole program of related activities in October at the Environment Centre's website.

The first event in the Environment Centre's Sustainability Month, the Ethical Food Adventure, was on earlier tonight and it was really atmospheric and enjoyable – nice food and drinks (chai and a really yummy mint tea), good music, poetry readings with great audience participation, and interesting talks on food-related sustainability issues by:

  • Fiona Tito-Wheatland (sustainability & you)
  • Richard Odell (Griffith Butcher)
  • David Dumaresq (global/local)
  • Celeste McGrath (raw food)
  • Nick Mayo (sustainable urban food)
  • Owen Pidgeon (Lorendale Orchards)
  • Zoe Bowman (Kitchen Garden Cooking)
  • Saan Ecker (What do we do next?)

It would be useful to get hold of Fiona's presentation which covered a lot of things we could do to be more sustainable in our food choices, so I hope it ends up on the Environment Centre website.

The Environment Centre's 30 Day Sustainability Challenge has grown to become a 3 month Caron Challenge. It is an absolutely fantastic initiative. Check it out at : http://carbonchallenge.ecoaction.com.au/
