At a free public talk on 8 September in advance of today's Sustainable House Day, a local real estate agent said that home buyers are increasingly asking about the solar orientation of houses, about whether trees block the sun in winter, whether they are insulated and whether they are close to public transport.

There's more buyer interest in Inner North and Inner South homes and in retrofitting them to make them more sustainable.

Overall he said it was a good investment for home owners to undertake such retrofitting.

If they sell their homes subsequently, they should make sure that their agents make this a strong selling point.
