There was an interview today on Radio National (Bush Telegraph) of the Mayor of Port Augusta, Joy Baluch, and of the CEO of Beyond Zero Emissions, Matthew Wright. 

The Playford B coal fired power station is one of the highest polluting plants in Australia. It could be replaced with concentrating solar thermal power stations. The mayor supports change…

Port Augusta seems to have the necessary characteristics for a renewable power plant: 

  • It is currently powered by an outmoded, highly polluting coal fired power station
  • It is in a region of high solar radiation.
