The ABC reported today that a $150 million solar farm is set to be built near Bungendore east of Canberra.

It will be the largest solar farm in New South Wales and will be built alongside the Capital Wind Farm.

The solar panels will cover 100 hectares and produce enough energy to power
10,000 homes.

Well, this is not as straightforward as it appeared initially. A subsequent article in the Canberra Times on 22 January 2011 says that construction of the solar farm depends on on whether the joint venture partners receive project funding from the Commonwealth and NSW Governments.

The joint venture partners in the proposed Capital Solar Farm are Infigen Energy and Suntech Power Holdings and their proposal is one of four shortlisted proposals being assessed for Commonwealth funding under its Solar Flagships Program.

Infigen already operates the Capital Wind Farm near Bungendore.
