Many Canberrans have taken for granted the extensive nature parks that exist in and around our city, including for many years 'me'. I've only appreciated more recently how cash strapped Territories and Municipal Services (TAMS) has become, underresourced, and the concerns this situation raises among a number of community groups which have had long term commitments to preserving nature parks – the lungs of our city, corridors for unique flora and fauna species, the free spaces in which we all get a chance to walk, cycle for the health of our minds and bodies – against incursions by the ever present forces of over-development and buck-making that seems to rage rampantly in Canberra.
