Six Canberra businesses are receiving grants totalling over $0.5 million to make their buildings more energy and water efficient.
The grants are part of the ACT Government Tune Up Canberra program, which offers dollar-for-dollar funding to office building owners to “tune up” buildings that have more than 500 m2 floor space.
The six buildings are:
The Schiavello building at 2 Collie Street, Fyshwick
Nara House on the corner of Constitution Avenue and London Circuit
5 Constitution Avenue (including Customs House)
Allara House on the corner of Constitution Avenue and Allara Street.
Tourism House at 40 Blackall Street, Barton
40 Macquarie Street, Barton.
The ACT Planning and Land Authority (ACTPLA), which manages the program, estimates that, altogether, the buildings undertaking the tune up work will save a total of 1.5 million kWh a year in electricity and almost a 1 million MJ in gas a year.
There is still over a million dollars worth of grant funding available for the remaining two rounds of applications to June 2011.
