Great news!

The ACT Government announced today its decision to set a target of cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2020. It has tabled this target, and a target of 80% reduction in emissions by 2050, in its Climate Change and Greenhouse Gas Reduction Bill 2010.

Here is a link to the media statement issued today by the Minister for the Environment Climate Change and Water, Simon Corbell.

The ACT Government is to be congratulated for its leadership in taking this bold step in a context where there has been a failure of leadership at the national level.
