In case you didn’t hear a few weeks ago, Earth Hour in Canberra on 26 March
2011 led to a drop of about 8% in electricity usage, equivalent to a reduction
of 26.93 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions and to taking 6.26 average cars off
the road for a year.

During Earth Hour, Canberra’s electricity use was 275,607 kWhs, which is
25,172 kWhs less than what ActewAGL  predicted the usual electricity usage between 8.30pm and 9.30pm on that Saturday would have been in the absence of Earth Hour.

ActewAGL also supported Earth Hour by purchasing accredited GreenPower through its Greenchoice program equal to the electricity used by the ACT during the hour, namely 275,607 kWh, which is the equivalent of taking up to 68.58 average cars off the road for one year.
