A few individuals are filling a roster to assist the Climate Justice Fasters get to and from Parliament House each day, as they need to conserve their energy and cannot do it themselves.
We thought a rolling roster of one day a week would be the easiest and less invasive way of organising this. So far we have people willing to drive the fasters Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs and Sun, so we are still needing people to take Fridays and Saturdays.
This is something really important that we can do for the team because the less energy they expend, the better for them as the fast progresses.
To let you know what is involved in this we have worked out that the best way of doing it:
- to have two people (if possible) drive to Red Hill to collect the fasters and the car containing the equipment
- drive their car and yours (or transfer the equipment into your car if only one driver) to Parliament House and set up ‘camp’ for them
- be on your merry way
- do the process in reverse in the afternoon
The rota will last until the end of the fast on 18 December. But if you can only do a few weeks, or a one off day, this would be great too.
The hours for the team are roughly 8-5, so the best volunteers would be those who are not working on Friday or Saturday, however a few of us are managing to do this before and after work, and the fasters are more than happy to fit in with our schedules.
