On 4 August 2009 SEE-Change (http://www.see-change.org.au/) held an interesting meeting aimed at establishing sustainability-related community activities in Canberra's Inner South. Guest speaker Will Steffen from the ANU Climate Change Institute outlined the many local initiatives the Institute is involved in, including:
A proposal for a Green Centre @ ANU Exchange that could become a test bed for new approaches to the built environment, and for showcasing regional expertise in climate change solutions;
ACT Government-funded research on local climate vulnerability and adaptation issues;
Bob Douglas of SEE-Change identified the high eco-footprint of Canberra inner south suburbs (see http://www.acfonline.org.au/co…..tionatlas/) and there was discussion about possible action to work towards greater sustainability, and agreement to meet again to take this forward.
People interested in getting involved in Inner South SEE-Change activities can contact Susan Butler at e-mail: development@see-change.org.au
I just came across the website of the ANU Environment Collective that has information about living sustainably in the ACT and directories of community groups etc. Check it out at http://act.greenguide.net.au/M…..irectories

Hey I've noticed that over the past couple of years talks around town have evolved from 'climate grief' to 'a caring economy' and now there seems to be an emphasis on us all transitioning to a lifestyle of low impact happiness. Perhaps we really are transitioning. I feel so blessed to be part of such an exciting evolution.
