Creating bags with an artistic edge from recycled leather

Vintagecreation uses recycled leathers to make new functional bags with an artistic edge.

The reclaimed leathers come from different sources, including vintage leather coats, offcuts and leathers that are commercially rejected, and usually end up as landfill.

The driving force behind Vintagecreations, Leisa Hoare, says that her business is about “creating new from old, recycling old images into new works of art and leather coats into functional, clever leather bags.”

The leather bags have a decorative fabric panel sourced from Florence Broadhurst and other designs to add colour and interest to the bag.

Assisting people with shoulder injuries is also a consideration, says Leisa. “Shoulder injuries often prevent clients from carrying bags in certain ways. By providing multiple, clip on, clip off bag straps, made from strong webbing, my clients are able to wear their bag in ways that suit them at any time.”

The bags can be used in six different ways – as handbags, IT bags, backpacks, shoulder bags, clutch bags, and sling bags.

You can find Leisa and her Vintagecreations bags at Green Savvy Sunday at the Old Bus Depot Markets in Kingston on Sunday 16 September.
