Theme: Promoting sustainability, health and inclusion in the city

Co-hosted by the University of Canberra and the Canberra Organic Growers Society. It will be held at the University of Canberra on 7-8 October, 2010.

Community gardens play an important role in promoting urban health, social inclusion, active civic participation and practices of sustainable living in urban environments. This conference will bring together representatives of different forms of community gardening practices, academics, policy makers and urban planners to share knowledge, promote dialogue and assess best practice to promote more productive and sustainable engagement with local food systems through community gardens and city farms.

High quality, informed planning policy and practice improves the sustainability and liveability of our cities. This conference will contribute to this by exploring community gardening practices, academic evaluations of local food systems and current policy initiatives. We invite proposals for papers, panels and/or workshops on these issues.

There will be a refereed and non-refereed stream at the conference. Abstracts (300-500 words) for both streams are due by 15 June, 2010.  Please indicate which stream you wish to present in. Full-papers (3500- 5000 words) for the refereed stream are due by 15 July, 2010.
