What is Happening

The past year has seen several significant developments in the climate change policy arena. Internationally, the meeting in Copenhagen in December 2009 failed to achieve the broad agreement to reduce global emission that many had hoped for. Nationally, the attempt to get an emissions trading scheme in place has so far failed. The ‘Climategate’ scandal in the UK and the attacks on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has eroded support for action on climate change in many parts of the world.

As we head for a federal election and with the change in national leadership, where do these developments leave climate change policy? The Australian National University (ANU) has a wealth of expertise in policy development for mitigation and adaptation to climate change. This forum will explore the range of policy options and strategies that might be implemented to deal with climate change.
