World Environment Day this year became the focus of celebrations around Canberra and region.

In Canberra, the ACT Government hosted a celebration on 3 June in Garema Place and City Walk and showcased local organisations and environmental initiatives.

climateXchange was there as were many other community organisations and groups including the Canberra Environment and Sustainability Resource Centre; Canberra Loves 40%; Canberra Organic Growers Society; Conservation Council; Friends of the ACT Arboreta; Greening Australia; SEE-Change; and Slow Food Canberra.

There were also some unexpected entertainers!

In Queanbeyan, on 5 June, the Queanbeyan City Council organized an Enviro-Fair. Many local groups took part (including Clean Energy for Eternity shown below) and there were demonstrations, workshops and guest speakers on issues such as energy efficiency, local sustainable agriculture, Queanbeyan’s platypus population, wormfarming, no-dig gardening and healthy chooks.
