What is Happening:

Janet & Andy’s Garden will be open on Saturday & Sunday 2 & 3 October 2010 at 6 Gidabal Street, Aranda, from 10am to 4.30pm.

This garden is a 10 year old Australian native garden with more than 260 different species on show.

Water retention has become a major focus for the owners of this garden. Rain run-off down the steep block which has carried soil and mulch to the road has been a problem for some years. The poor hydrophobic soils have also been a factor. Rock terraces have been built and swales have been dug out to slow the passage of water over the block. Rainfall collects in the swales as does the overflow from two water-tanks, allowing the collected water to filter down the block. Compost is being added to the soil as well to improve its water-holding capacity. Most of this work has been done in the last few years.

Admission is $6.00, under 18s free. Proceeds are to go to the Southern Tablelands Ecosystems Park (STEP).
