What is Happening:

On Saturday 27 March from 8:30 to 9:30pm people all around the world will participate in Earth Hour by switching off lights to raise awareness of the link between energy consumption and climate change.

You can do your bit for Earth Hour by switching off as many non-essential lights and appliances as possible before leaving the office on Friday 26 March (as well as switching off for Earth Hour of course!).

Then come on down to celebrate this iconic event at the Chifley Meadows, out the front of the Chifley Library. ANU staff, students and guests are invited to mark the occasion by enjoying a free barbecue dinner from 6pm. Bring the family and a picnic blanket for a relaxed and exciting evening festival.

A full program of entertainment includes:

Live jazz and other relaxed music
Star-gazing with the Black Hole Society
A surprise international themed performance
Games for the kids
Director of the ANU Climate Change Institute, Will Steffen, will count down to Earth Hour.
A dazzling fire breathing and twirling show
DrumAssault West African Drumming

As a special Earth Hour competition, email your most quirky, innovative ideas for hosting an Earth Hour event to teifi.caron@anu.edu.au. Do this in less than 25 words and be in the draw to win a double movie pass to Dendy cinema. Prize will be drawn just before Earth Hour.
